
Frank Turner is a native of Jackson, Mississippi. In May 2016, he completed the Master of Arts in Teaching -Music Education degree from the University of South Carolina. While attending USC, Frank was a Choral Graduate Assistant within the School of Music. As part of his graduate assistantship, Frank was a part of the USC Concert Choir, Men’s Chorus, and Graduate Vocal Ensemble.
Before arriving in Columbia, Frank graduated from Mississippi College in Clinton, MS with the Bachelor of Music-Vocal Performance degree (May 2014). At MC, Frank was a member of the MC Singers, Men’s Glee, and Mixed Company, a vocal jazz group. He was also a MC Music Department Ambassador. Within the MS College Musical Theater and Opera Program, Frank played the roles of Dr. Bartolo in Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro,” Rusty Charlie and Joey Biltmore in “Guys and Dolls,” Coalhouse Walker Junior in “Ragtime,” and Gaoler in Amy Beach’s “Cabildo.” Mr. Turner has also played the role King Balthazar in Menotti’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” with the Mississippi Opera Company. Frank participated in the 2012 and 2014 MC Music Department Honors Recital performing with the MS Symphony Orchestra.
Since arriving in Columbia, Frank has been a staff singer at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in downtown Columbia as well as the Music Associate at Union United Methodist Church in Irmo, SC. While at Union, Frank was the Assistant Chancel Choir Director and Children’s Choir Director. Frank is a proud graduate of the Mississippi School of the Arts (MSA). As a vocal music major, he was an Arts Ambassador for the residential high school, promoting the school throughout the state of Mississippi. While in high school, he won several state and regional National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competitions in the high school male category.
Mr. Turner is currently employed by the Lexington-Richland School District 5, serving as the Choral Director at Irmo High School. At IHS, Frank directs several choral ensembles, teaches group piano and serves as the vocal coach for musical productions. Frank currently serves as a staff singer at Shandon Presbyterian Church. In 2017, Frank joined one of Columbia’s newest chamber groups, Limited Time Only.
